KEEP ON

Meaning 1: to continue.

Example:  She kept on trying to do the exercises even though they were very difficult.

Meaning 2: to continue talking while annoying the person you are talking to.  Example: He kept on about it even though it was clear we had all already understood.

 

KEEP BACK

Meaning 1: to prevent from progressing.

Example: He is kept back in his studies because the other students are not as intelligent as he is.

Meaning 2: to hold or remain at a distance.

 

KEEP AWAY

Meaning: to hold or remain at a distance.

Example: The fireman told everyone to keep away and not approach the fire.

 

KEEP UP

Meaning 1: to continue in the same way.  

Example:  You’re doing vey well!  Keep it up!

Meaning 2: to progess at the same rate as someone or something.

Example:  He was so fast that none of the other runners could keep up with him.

 

KEEP OUT

Meaning: to remain outside or make someone or something stay outside.

Example:  Close the windows to keep out the mosquitoes.

 

KEEP DOWN

Meaning: to hold back, restrain or repress.

Example:  The government said that wearing masks will be keep the number of Covid cases down.
